From Conception to Completion

Development ranges from nurturing the seed of a project to the point where it becomes a “Go” production. This involves:

• conceiving it on paper;
• calculating costs;
• connecting with major elements such as talent and locations;
• and integrating these into business and marketing plans aimed at raising the necessary capital.

Our services can be engaged in any or all of these areas.

Conceiving a project on paper can be accomplished through a number of means. If you have an idea, we can work with you in Story Development to thrash out characters, structure, conflict, plot, arc, and message. We can then give you Instruction in writing your own screenplay, including the use of software and proper formats, as well as implementing the elements worked our in story development. We can then Coach you through the necessary drafts to polish your screenplay for presentation. Should you already have a screenplay in progress, we can Consult with you to get it in shape, or Collaborate with you if that becomes mutually advantageous. Alternatively, you can hire us to write a Treatment (a cinematic rendering of your idea for marketing), and/or a finished Screenplay.

Calculating costs is what separates the wishful thinkers from the hard-nosed business people. Substantiating budgets through detailed script breakdown and initial scheduling (Board and Budgeting) breeds confidence from prospective investors. Doing so also establishes an extensive knowledge of production requirements that becomes intelligently interactive with script and budget revisions.

Connecting with major elements such as talent and locations is further facilitated by effective Board and Budgeting. Development at this point focuses on putting together a package that excites financing entities to back the project. Achieving the interest of talent, picturing locations, and creating promotional buzz, all within budgetary limits, is a dance of momentum that requires careful management.

Integrating this momentum within the framework of business and marketing plans becomes essential. Setting up a production company from scratch or as and adjunct of an ongoing enterprise requires specific attention to the legal and accounting procedures peculiar to the entertainment industry. Besides contributing to the cachet of being a serious “player,” it establishes an entity necessary for the making of deals.
